Active Winter Vacations

If you have had bariatric surgery in Utah, you know the importance of staying active if you want to lose weight and keep it off. However, staying active can be more difficult in the winter when people tend to let the cold weather keep them indoors. Taking active winter vacations can help people who have had gastric band in Utah get more exercise.

If you enjoy participating in winter sports, such as downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or sledding, then you can make one or more of these sports the focus of your winter vacation. Plan to spend most of each day in an active pursuit, and keep within your dietary guidelines when it comes to the meals you consume, and you will be able to lose weight while having fun on your vacation.

Of course not everyone likes cold weather sports, so if you prefer to stay warm you can always take your vacation somewhere warm and participate in activities like hiking, biking, walking tours, swimming, tennis or running. The key is to make sure to include some type of active pursuit each day, rather than spending your whole vacation laying around and eating unhealthy foods. Choose activities that you like to help keep you motivated, and keep the activities well within your skill level, taking care not to overdo any one activity.

If you are taking your family on vacation, make sure to get input from everyone involved regarding both the location you go to and the activities that you will participate in. This will make the vacation fun for the whole family.
