After a long day at work, it’s all too easy to use exhaustion, working late or family commitments as an excuse to skip the gym. Studies also show that exercising in the morning helps you sleep better at night and naturally relieves stress by giving exercisers the opportunity to mentally prepare for the day ahead. Plus, a morning workout helps you make positive food choices throughout the day. When you wake up early to burn off calories, it’s a lot easier to say no to donuts and junk food!

Here are two simple tips to help you get started with your morning workout routine in West Valley City!

  1. Start small. Set the alarm for 20 minutes earlier than you usually wake up and go to bed 20 minutes earlier the night before. Go for a short jog or walk through your neighborhood. Once your body acclimates to getting up early you can set the alarm 10 minutes earlier each week until you are getting up with enough time for at least 30 minutes of cardio and light resistance training or core work every day.
  2. Track your progress. When transitioning to a morning workout routine, aim for two mornings on alternate days (such as Tuesdays and Thursdays). Track your progress in a logbook. With each passing week you can aim to get up a little earlier and add another morning workout to your routine. On days when you oversleep or feel frustrated, looking back at your progress is a great source for inspiration!
